Taxonomy

Halimeda was named by Lamouroux (1812).

It was assigned to Codiaceae by Wells (1944), Lakhanpal et al. (1976) and Badve and Kundal (1986); and to Halimedaceae by Bassi (1998), Mirsa et al. (2002), Humane and Kundal (2005), Jauhri et al. (2006), Ghosh and Sarkar (2013) and Tripalo (2017).
