Dysagnus bicarinatus was named by Cope (1876). Its type specimen is AMNH 3975.

It was considered a nomen nudum by Lull and Wright (1942); it was considered a nomen dubium by Coombs and Galton (1988), Dodson and Currie (1990) and Dodson et al. (2004).
