Grallatoridae was named by Lull (1904). It is considered to be a form taxon.

It was synonymized subjectively with Anchisauripodidae by Kuhn (1963) and Haubold (1971).

It was assigned to Coelurosauria by Bock (1952), Lull (1953) and Baird (1957); to Coelurosauria by Kuhn (1958) and Welles (1971); to Trisauropodia by Ellenberger (1974); to Theropoda by Gierlinski (1991) and Mietto et al.
