It was assigned to Liliaceae by MacGinitie (1941); to Smilaceae by Ettinghausen (1880), Knowlton (1899), Knowlton (1919) and Srivastava (1991); and to Smilacaceae by Lakhanpal et al. (1976), Chauhan (1991), Liu et al. (1996) and Mabberley (2000).
