Kionophyllum was named by Chi (1931) [Sepkoski's age data: C Bash-l C Step-l Sepkoski's reference number: 163]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Aulophyllinae by Hill (1956); to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Geyerophyllidae by Hill (1981) and Rodriguez and Bamber (2012).
