Taxonomy
Nelumbium lacunosum was named by MacGinitie (1941). Its type specimen is U.S. Nat. Mus. holotype no. 40237. Its type locality is UCMP loc. PA971, Independence Hill, which is in an Eocene floodplain shale in California.
