Taxonomy
Ficus sordida was named by Lesquereux (1878). Its type specimen is U.C. Mus. Pal. Paleobot. Ser. plesiotype no. 2278; Calif. Acad. Sci Paleo. Type and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Phytocrene sordida by MacGinitie (1941).
