Cystiphyllum (Hedstroemophyllum) was named by Wedekind (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov S Prid Sepkoski's reference number: 1240]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Hedstroemophyllum by Hill (1956) and Sepkoski (2002).

It was assigned to Cystiphyllidae by Hill (1956); to Cystiphyllum by Wedekind (1927) and Hill (1981); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
