Taxonomy
Eotarbus jerami was named by Dunlop (1996). Its type specimen is Ulster Museum K25850 and is an impression. Its type locality is Lower Bone Bed Member, Ludford Corner, Ludlow, Shropshire, England, which is in the Pridoli of siltstone the Downton Castle Sandstone Formation the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Eotarbus, Palaeotarbus.

It was recombined as Palaeotarbus jerami by Dunlop (1999) and Dunlop et al. (2013).
