Homalophyllites was named by Easton (1944) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Vise-u]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Triplophyllites (Homalophyllites) by Easton et al. (1958).

It was assigned to Hapsiphyllidae by Hill (1956); to Triplophyllites by Easton et al. (1958); to Zaphrentoidinae by Hill (1981); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
