Lyginopteridaceae was named by Zalessky (1906) [Kenrick and Crane 1997 rank this as: Plesion "Lyginopteridaceae".]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Spermatophytata by Kenrick and Crane (1997); and to Lyginopteridales by Anderson et al. (2007).
