Taxonomy
Thuites was named by Sternberg (1823) [also said to be 1825]. It is extant. Its type is Thuites alienus.

It was assigned to Cupressineae by Knowlton (1919); to Coniferophyta by Andrews (1970); and to Cupressaceae by Hickey (1977) and Liu et al. (1996).
