Taxonomy
Nostoceras platycostatum was named by Kennedy and Cobban (1993). Its type specimen is USNM 411329, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Didymoceras platycostatum by Kennedy and Cobban (1997) and Kennedy et al. (2000).
