Taxonomy
Peltandrea primaeva was named by Hickey (1977). Its type specimen is USNM 43184. Its type locality is White Butte (USNM 14048), which is in a Wasatchian channel siltstone in the Golden Valley Formation of North Dakota.

It was recombined as Peltandra primaeva by Hickey (1977) and Sims (2003).
