Taxonomy
Corylus acutertiaria was named by Hickey (1977). It is not extant. Its type specimen is USNM 43214. Its type locality is Beckert Ranch (USNM 14128), which is in a Clarkforkian channel siltstone in the Golden Valley Formation of North Dakota.
