Dicotylophyllum oblongatum was named by Hickey (1977). It is not extant. Its type specimen is USNM 167533. Its type locality is North Fairy Dells (USNM 14085), which is in a Clarkforkian channel claystone in the Golden Valley Formation of North Dakota.
