Taxonomy
Thiornis sociata was named by Longinos Navás (1922). It is a compression preserving soft parts. Its type locality is Minas de azufre de Libros, which is in a MN 9/MN 10 lacustrine mudstone in Spain.
It was recombined as Podiceps sociatus by Olson (1995) and Mlikovsky (2002).
