Mesophyllum (Lekanophyllum) was named by Wedekind (1923) [Sepkoski's age data: D m Sepkoski's reference number: 1240]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Lekanophyllum by Zhen (1995) and Sepkoski (2002).

It was assigned to Mesophyllum by Wedekind (1923) and Hill (1956); to Digonophyllidae by Zhen (1995); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
