Longiclava was named by Easton (1962) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp Sepkoski's reference number: 1240]. Its type is Longiclava tumida.

It was assigned to Hapsiphyllinae by Hill (1981); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
