Taxonomy
Lonsdaleia was named by McCoy (1849) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u C Serp-u Sepkoski's reference number: 163,1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Madreporites duplicatus.

It was assigned to Lonsdaleiinae by Hill (1956); to Axophyllidae by Hill (1981); to Lonsdaleiidae by Sando (1983); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
