Lonsdaleoides was named by Heritsch (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: C Mosc-u P Leon Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Aulophyllinae by Hill (1956); to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Geyerophyllidae by Hill (1981) and Rodriguez and Bamber (2012).
