Lophotichium was named by Moore and Jeffords (1945) [Sepkoski's age data: C Bash-u P Asse Sepkoski's reference number: 163]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Lophophyllidiidae by Hill (1956); to Cyathaxoniidae by Hill (1981); to Lophotichiidae by Fedorowski (1987); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
