Celastrophyllum decurrens was named by Lesquereux (1892). Its type specimen is University of Kansas State Museum (UKSM) 7257. It is the type species of Crassidenticulum.

It was recombined as Crassidenticulum decurrens by Upchurch and Dilcher (1990).
