Taxonomy
Coelophysinae was named by Nopcsa (1928). Its type is Coelophysis.

It was synonymized subjectively with Podokesauridae by Steel (1970).

It was assigned to Podokesauridae by Nopcsa (1928); and to Coelophysidae by Paul (1988), Sereno (1998), Carrano et al. (2002) and Ezcurra (2017).
