Stegosaurus duplex
Taxonomy
Stegosaurus duplex was named by Marsh (1887). Its type specimen is YPM 1858, a set of postcrania, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quarry 11, Como Bluff (YPM), which is in a Kimmeridgian/Tithonian wet floodplain mudstone in the Morrison Formation of Wyoming.
It was synonymized subjectively with Stegosaurus ungulatus by Lull (1910), Gilmore (1914), Hennig (1915) and Bakker (1990); it was synonymized subjectively with Stegosaurus armatus by Kuhn (1964), Galton (1990), Olshevsky and Ford (1993), Galton and Upchurch (2004) and Maidment et al. (2008).
