Acanthopholis macrocercus

Taxonomy
Acanthopholis macrocercus was named by Seeley (1869). Its type specimen is SMC B55588-55609, an osteoderm, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Syngonosaurus type, Cambridge (PROXY), which is in a Cenomanian marine horizon in the Upper Greensand Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Syngonosaurus macrocercus by Seeley (1879), Sauvage (1882), Lydekker (1889), Lydekker (1904), Huene (1927) and Stromer (1934); it was synonymized subjectively with Eucercosaurus tanyspondylus by Bartholomai and Molnar (1981); it was considered a nomen nudum by Woodward and Sherborn (1890); it was considered a nomen dubium by Brinkmann (1988), Ford (2000), Carpenter (2001) and Vickaryous et al. (2004).
