Taxonomy
Plateosauravidae was named by Huene (1929). It is not extant. Its type is Plateosauravus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Melanorosauridae by Steel (1970); it was synonymized subjectively with Plateosauridae by Heerden (1979); it was synonymized subjectively with Anchisauridae by Olsen and Galton (1984).

It was assigned to Prosauropoda by Kuhn (1946); and to Prosauropoda by Huene (1929), Huene (1948) and Kuhn (1966).
