Amphidozotherium cayluxi was named by Filhol (1877) [Types are MHNH QU 8686 and 8687, from the old Quercy collections. The age of the specimens is Late Eocene.]. It is not extant. It is the type species of Amphidozotherium.

J.-Y. Crochet 1974Erinaceoidea à foormule dentaire inférieure complète. p1-p3 uniradiculées et dinimuant d'importance vers l'arrière. La molarisation de p4 est avancéee; son talonide forme un plateau peu ou pas excavé et se déversant lingualement, possède sur sa crête transversale un hypoconide qui commence à s'individualiser et un entoconide à peine distinct. L'émail de p4 et des molaires est affaissé. Le paralophide des molaires s'infléchit légèrement vers le métaconide.
