Gorgonops whaitsi

Taxonomy
Scymnognathus whaitsi was named by Broom (1912). Its type specimen is AMNH 5530a, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Beaufort West Commonage (Tropidostoma & Cistecephalus Assemblage Zone), which is in a Capitanian/Wuchiapingian terrestrial horizon in the Teekloof Formation of South Africa. It is the type species of Scymnognathus.

It was recombined as Gorgonops whaitsi by Sigogneau-Russell (1989).
