Taxonomy
Cryptocynodon simus was named by Seeley (1894). It is not extant. Its type specimen is NHMUK PV R2582, a partial skull. Its type locality is Nieuweld, which is in a Wuchiapingian terrestrial horizon in South Africa.
It was synonymized subjectively with Endothiodon uniseries by King and Rubidge (1993).
