Garwoodia was named by Wood (1941). It is not extant. Its type is Garwoodia gregaria.
It was assigned to Porostromata by Senowbari-Daryan et al. (1993); to Pseudoudotaceae by Mancinelli et al. (2004); and to Garwoodiaceae by Vachard et al. (2016).
