Taxonomy

Typotheria was named by Zittel (1892) [I'm not sure what the original intended rank of this group was (DC) but treated as a suborder of Notoungulata by Simpson 1935 (JA)].

It was assigned to Perissodactyla by Ameghino (1894); to Trogontia by Gadow (1898); and to Notoungulata by Simpson (1935), Simpson (1945), Simpson (1967), McKenna (1975), Reguero et al. (2003), Shockey et al. (2009), Reguero and Prevosti (2010), Billet (2011), García López and Powell (2011), Vera (2012) and García López and Babot (2015).
