Murchisonia imbricata was named by Lindström (1884). Its type specimen is Riksmuseet Specimen. It is the type species of Frodospira.
It was recombined as Lophospira imbricata by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); it was recombined as Frodospira imbricata by Wagner (1999) and Wagner (2023).
