Taxonomy
Pavastehphyllum was named by Minato and Kato (1965) [Sepkoski's age data: P Asse P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1240]. Its type is Iranophyllum simplex.

It was assigned to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Waagenophyllinae by Minato and Kato (1965), Hill (1981) and Wang et al. (2006).
