Taxonomy
Pentaphyllum was named by de Koninck (1872) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-m P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 798,1086]. It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Cryptophyllum by Hill (1956).

It was assigned to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002); to Stauriida by Fedorowski (2009); and to Pentaphyllinae by Hill (1981) and Fedorowski (2021).
