Ambonychiacea was named by Miller (1877) [Also called Ambonychiacea because mollusc workers are weird..... m. kosnik taxon no: 6003].

It was corrected as Ambonychioidea by Pojeta (1966), McRoberts and Newell (2005), Nevesskaja (2009) and Carter et al. (2011).

It was assigned to Pterioida by Pojeta (1966), Vokes (1980) and McRoberts and Newell (2005); to Mytiloida by Nevesskaja (2009); and to Myalinida by Carter et al. (2011).
