Herpetairus arcuatus
Taxonomy
Dryolestes arcuatus was named by Marsh (1879). Its type specimen is YPM 11822, a maxilla (right maxilla with M2-7 much worn), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quarry 9, Como Bluff (YPM), which is in a Kimmeridgian/Tithonian fluvial-lacustrine mudstone/sandstone in the Morrison Formation of Wyoming. It is the type species of Herpetairus.
It was recombined as Herpetairus arcuatus by Simpson (1927), Simpson (1929), Hay (1930), Kraus (1979), Prothero (1981) and Engelmann and Callison (1998); it was synonymized subjectively with Dryolestes priscus by Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004).
