Taxonomy
Dicrocynodon was named by Marsh. Its type is Diplocynodon victor. It is the type genus of Dicrocynodontidae.

It was synonymized subjectively with Docodon by Simpson (1929) and Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004).

It was assigned to Amphitheriidae by Hay (1902); and to Dicrocynodontidae by Simpson (1927) and Hay (1930).
