Anoplotherium was named by Cuvier (1804). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Rhinocerotina by Gray (1825); to Ruminantia by Owen (1848); to Anoplotheriidae by Carroll (1988) and Hooker (2007); and to Anoplotheriinae by Erfurt and Metais (2007).
