Dicerorhinus cixianensis
Taxonomy
Dicerorhinus cixianensis was named by Chen and Wu (1976). Its type specimen is IVPP V4833 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Jiulongkou, Ci Xian County, which is in a Miocene terrestrial claystone/sandstone in China.

G. Chen and W. Wu 1976 | Relatively small Dicerorhinus. Nasofrontal region is flat and straight; the anterior margin of nasal is bent downwards. The position of maxillary notch is above the anterior border of upper DP1. The distance between the infraorbital foramen and the nasomaxillary notch is about 23 mm, anterior edge of infraorbital foramen lies above the posterior margin of upper DP1, premaxillary bone slender, in a slightly oblique position, the posterior margin of the lower jaw slightly protrudes outwards, the symphysis slightly curves upwards, the angle (jiaobu=angle?) is slieghtly convex. Cheekteeth small, brachyodont. Upper molars quadratic, the folding of parastyle well developed, protocone (=yuanjian) rudimentary and weak, anterior process (="qianci", paracone would be "qianjian") developed, no little process (="xiaoci", paraconule would be "qianxiaojian") accompany the anterior process, no inner cingulum. There are two kinds of lower Incisors, lower I1 bean-shape, lower I2 developed to a canine tooth. |
