Prosmilia was named by Koker (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-l P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 680]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Polycoeliinae by Hill (1956); to Prosmiliinae by Hill (1981); to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Adamanophyllidae by Chen et al. (1997) and Chen et al. (2018).
