Trochonema (Eunema) fatua was named by Hall (1868) [Trochonema (Eunema) fatua]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Trochonema fatuum by Clarke and Ruedemann (1903); it was recombined as Globonema fatua by Wagner (1999) and Wagner (2023).
