Pleurotomaria claustrata was named by Lindström (1884).

It was recombined as Clathrospira claustrata by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); it was recombined as Conotoma claustrata by Perner (1907), Koken and Perner (1925), Wagner (1999) and Wagner (2023).
