It was reranked as the unranked clade Carettochelyinae by Joyce (2014).

It was assigned to Carettochelyidae by Sukhanov (2000), Hutchison et al. (2004), Karl et al. (2006), Karl et al. (2012) and Pérez-García et al. (2013); and to Carettochelyidae by Joyce (2014).
