Taxonomy
Trimerostephanus coarctatus was named by Ameghino (1901) [Simpson (1967: 144) considered MACN 10965A and MACN 10966A as syntypes]. Its type specimen is MACN 10965, MACN 10966; two lots of various specimens.

It was recombined as Puelia coarctatus by Bond and López (1993).
