Natica otis was named by Broderip and Sowerby (1829). It is extant. Its type specimen is Natica otis, a shell.

It was recombined as Polinices (Polinices) otis by Marincovich (1977); it was recombined as Polinices otis by Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
