Taxonomy
Murchisonia helicteres was named by Salter (1859). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Lophospira helicteres by Ulrich and Scofield (1897), Grabau and Shimer (1909), Knight and Bridge (1944), Wilson (1951), Tofel and Bretsky (1987), Wagner (1995) and Peel and Gubanov (1997); it was recombined as Eunema helicteres by Wagner (1999) and Wagner (2017).
