Euomphalus gyroceras was named by Roemer (1852). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Eccyliomphalus gyroceras by Miller (1889), Bassler (1915), Sellards et al. (1932), Dake and Bridge (1932) and Bridge and Girty (1937); it was recombined as Phanerotinus gyroceras by Weller (1898); it was recombined as Eccyliopterus gyroceras by Ross and Longwell (1964); it was recombined as Lytospira gyroceras by Flower (1968); it was recombined as Ecculiomphalus gyroceras by Bartlett and Webb (1971); it was recombined as Macluritella gyroceras by Wagner (1999) and Wagner (2017).
