Taxonomy
Rhabdocyclus was named by Lang and Smith (1939). Its type is Palaeocyclus fletcheri.

It was assigned to Tryplasmatidae by Hill (1956); to Tryplasmidae by Kaljo (1957), Kaljo (1958) and Reiman (1958); to Palaeocyclidae by Hill (1981); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
