Minycardita was named by Hoare and Plas (2003). Its type is Minycardita sectilis.

It was assigned to Pseudobigaleaidae by Hoare and Plas (2003) and Vendrasco et al. (2010); and to Conocardiidae by Duplicate (2011) and Wagner (2023).

R. D. Hoare and L.P. Plas 2003Small with smooth outer shell layer; anterior gape tear-drop in shape anteriorly, extending posteriorly as narrowing V-shaped opening which is denticulate; body slightly swollen; rostral clefts prominent.
M. J. Vendrasco et al. 2010Minycardita is unique among members of Pseudobigaleaidae in having an elongate, swollen main body chamber, sub-circular in dorsal view, that is bordered by weak primary carinae (the two ridges from the apex to the postero-lateral edges on both sides of the shell).
